The design is expressed using a deliberately limited palette of finishes.  I sourced a stone we could use outside on terraces and garden as well as for areas like the bootroom where flooring needed to be more robust.  I proposed reverting to a single staircase rising through the building’s full height rather than splitting it to create a stronger design feature, and the steel structure was finished in the same black powder coating as the kitchen.

In these light-filled, open plan spaces the selections of flooring and kitchen were key to the design. I relocated the kitchen to the rear of the 2nd floor area and proposed the largely freestanding Vipp units.  As the clients leaned into an increasingly minimal aesthetic I was mindful that daily life would include young children:  The design needed to remain practical as well as beautiful.

A bespoke joinery package creates streamlined storage throughout, again using finishes already present in walls and floors.  Some parts feature integrated LED lighting, others allow soft/ flexible storage at low level for toys and games.

The new area on the 3rd floor is -for now- the escape area for grownups! Joinery incorporated a concealed wet bar, home working area, and a ribbon-style fireplace.  We looked at every way of installing a large TV while not restricting the wonderful views.  The solution was automated conceal and reveal via a drop-down panel in the ceiling.  The home was completed with co-ordinating fittings and furniture from Vipp.
